The ingredients needed to make Wakame Rice:
  1. Get 2 cups (*180ml cup) Japanese Short Grain Rice
  2. Prepare 400 ml Dashi Stock *OR Water and 1/2 to 1 teaspoon Dashi Powder
  3. Make ready 1 tablespoon Mirin
  4. Get 1 teaspoon Salt
  5. Prepare 2 tablespoons Dry Cut Wakame
  6. Prepare 1 tablespoon Toasted Sesame Seeds

Steps to make Wakame Rice:

  2. Drain the rice and place it into the rice cooker’s inner pot. Add the Dashi Stock (OR Water and Dashi Powder), Mirin and Salt. Add more Water if needed to make the liquid up to the 2-cups-marking. Press ‘COOK’ button to start cooking.
  3. Soak Dried Cut Wakame in cold water until soft, drain well. *Note: If Wakame pieces are large, break (or cut) into smaller pieces before soak.
  4. When the rice is cooked, let it steamed for 10 minutes. Then loosen, add well-drained Wakame and Toasted Sesame Seeds, and mix gently.

It has a subtly sweet, but distinctive and strong flavour and texture. It is most often served in soups and salads. Sea farmers in Japan have grown wakame since the Nara period. Wakame is seaweed that is often found in dried form as opposed to fresh and salt preserved, especially outside Japan. Wakame is a nutritious, edible seaweed that brings a unique taste and texture to a variety of dishes.
